To Be A Voice

To be a voice…
Afraid, fearful, horrified
Screaming
In my pain and suffering
Howling to the monsters

But instead I pretend
That I am the monster
I have no fear
Silent

To be a voice…
Nice, sweet, in love
Gasp
Like her I can barely hear you
Haven’t I killed you yet?

But instead I pretend
That you are already dead
Breath but no heartbeat
Silent

To be a voice…
Upset, angry, damned
Muttered
Because what am I going to do?
The Abomination knows and doesn’t care

But instead I pretend
Counting running as winning
As if I’ve spoken
Silent

To be a voice…
Crazy, insane, mad
Babbling
With all the other voices
With no reason

But instead I pretend
Genius rather than insanity
Reason mistaken for madness
Silent

To be a voice…
Honest, real, the truth
Narration
But I’m not Morgan Freeman
No one cares what I think

But instead I pretend
I’m gonna be somebody
Though I’m nothing
Silent

Just to be a voice
But they speak
To a stupid man
A worthless man
I’m dead
